What a crazy summer…

Shot right after the final Haka Performance – Sweet!

I’ve definitely been riding the wave of awesome these past couple months.  Over this past summer, I’ve been honored with several awards for my films, found out that Bean Caught has made the RIT SoFA Honor Show which will debut at the Little on the 29th of September, I taught another awesome year at GIV IT as the Animation Faculty, I was asked to teach this Fall for the 3DDG program at RIT, AND I just got back from New Zealand with over 15,000 photos and a new short experimental film. NYC Photo Dump: Coney Island!

Yesterday was all about visiting Coney Island.  And what an Island it is.  I’ve been there before but never on a day where it was suspiciously quiet!  Of course, it was a Friday afternoon and nothing was really open, but the beautiful day and the quiet was really unmatched.  Would have been cool to ride the Ferris wheel though. NYC Photo Dump: Pizza, Botanicals & WTC

This is a late post, but it was worth posting.  The following are photos from another day in NYC with my lovely wife and friends.  We kicked off the day with the world’s best pizza from Difara’s in Brooklin (http://www.difara.com/), then ventured to the Botanical Gardens.  Eventually I found myself alone as I dropped my wife and friends back to their temporary residence and headed back into town to discover that the Fulton station was closed due to construction.  So I lost myself in the city for a bit and traveled down to the World Trade Center site and admired how the folks are working around the clock to rebuild America’s icons.  It’s a bit bizarre to see them, but the view was incredible just as the humidity was noticeably setting in the city.  Eventually I found my way back home to start another day. NYC Photo Dump: CP, GC, SW, etc!

More exploration happened over the past couple days.  On Friday, I took another walk along Central Park observing the glorious Spring features that nature can offer.  This made a great opportunity for photo taking naturally.  Later on, I met my friend, Phlip, for a treat to see Hunger Games which was a spectacular movie – I cannot wait for the following two sequels (hopefully to come ASAP). NYC Photo Dump: Chinatown!

I spent today in Chinatown off of Canal Street exploring stores and getting a better understanding how vastly different business is done vs standard big American Mall, Stores, Retailers, etc.  It was a pretty exciting days as I first ventured to a Temple and learned a bit about Buddhism, had some lunch, explored MANY stores and wished I had a range and refrigerator in my cell-of-a-living space.  Ran into an impromptu, subway-jazz-ensemble and enjoyed their awesome and energetic music. Visiting RIT Artist: Chris Edwards

A pretty awesome, inspirational guy.

What a crazy weekend. As you’re reading this, I’m typing up a blog post while riding Greyhound an it’s testing my motion sickness, but I’m determined to get as much out of my head while I’m still booming with thoughts. Continue reading

Finally – A Rigging & Coding Reel!

It’s been a rough ride and though I only have one rig to show, this reel shows off the character rig that essentially made up 3 different characters.  It was fun and awesome to do as well!  As always, I wish there was more time to take it much further, but it satisfied the needs for the film we did. Bean Caught is not officially completed, but we did screen at RIT this past Tuesday and received great feedback and I believe people actually enjoyed the film.  This was especially nice considering that for the prior 7 days leading up to screenings, I only had 19 hours of sleep, meaning I was sitting in a chair animation, fixing, shading, rigging, rendering, compositing, organizing, etc for at least 140 hours straight.  The leftover 9 hours went to eating and showering.  :o) Continue reading

Bean Caught: One more shot to Animate…

I’m in the final stretch of finishing up our very last shot in our film of which may take between 3 and 5 days.  It’s a long 20 second shot with 3 Characters and I’m struggling to even wonder where do I start?  We also have complications of particle beans and broken pots to deal with, but my partner in crime, Meghdad Asadi Lari, has been on the trail to find solutions to cache the particles so we can import them into various scenes and, therefore, save on time and setup in the long run.  I feel like this film’s construction process has taken a turn towards the “Inception” Movie’s dream within a dream literally – we have some scenes that are embedded within scenes that have embedded scenes. What a crazy, crazy weekend

SO not only am I completely stressed about completing a 20 week long journey with Bean Caught, I also discovered this past week La Lune et Le Coq got into the Czech Republic’s AniFest!!!  This is super exciting that my film is getting seen internationally!  Kinda validates those 10-long-weeks of animating!  :o) Continue reading
